Dreams Flora Resort & Spa, Punta Cana – Trip Report
July 16–19, 2026
This past weekend, my wife, our five-year-old son, and I spent four days (three nights) at Dreams Flora Resort & Spa in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and I’m happy to share my first-hand perspective as a family traveling with a young child.
Flight Experience: Getting to Punta Cana
Even though we live in the Pittsburgh area, we flew Frontier Airlines out of Cleveland for the best combination of price and convenience. The non-stop flight is only 3.5 hours, and the extra drive to Cleveland was absolutely worth it. Both legs were on time, boarding was smooth, and the flight itself was easy—exactly what you want when traveling with a young child.
Accommodation: Preferred Club Swim-Out Room
We booked a Preferred Club Swim-Out Room, and it was one of the best decisions of the trip. Having direct access to the pool from our terrace kept our son entertained for hours while giving us the perfect blend of relaxation and convenience.
Preferred Club benefits added real value:
- Access to a dedicated Preferred Club pool and lounge
- An additional a-la-carte restaurant
- Daily continental breakfast and afternoon snacks in the exclusive lounge
- Concierge service
The room was spacious, clean, and well-suited for a family of three. If you’re comparing room categories, our Dreams Flora resort map is a helpful reference for seeing exactly where the Preferred Club section and swim-out rooms sit relative to the beach and pools.
Dining at Dreams Flora Resort & Spa
We experienced several restaurants and were impressed overall:
- Thursday dinner at Portofino (Italian) – Excellent from start to finish. Great pastas, attentive service, and a romantic atmosphere even with our little one.
- All day Friday at Seaside Grille – This became our go-to. A la carte for breakfast and lunch, then transformed into the resort’s steakhouse for dinner. Consistent quality and very family-friendly.
- Saturday breakfast at the main buffet – Loved the Bloody Mary/mimosa station and especially the roving table-side mimosas. Plenty of options for our son as well.
- Saturday dinner at Himitsu – Outstanding hibachi experience. Fun, interactive, and the food was genuinely delicious.
Service across every restaurant and bar was excellent—friendly, proactive, and efficient.
Bars, Beach & Resort Grounds
One thing that really stood out was the impressive number of bars throughout the resort, including several swim-up bars. Drink service was fast and the bartenders were consistently friendly, whether we were at the pool, beach, or wandering the grounds.
The beach was nice and spacious with plenty of loungers. While some sargassum did make it ashore during our stay, the resort did an excellent job managing it. A barrier keeps most of the seaweed offshore, and any that reached the sand was quickly removed by staff, so it never became an issue.
Activities & Overall Impression
Our son’s highlight was the water park with its collection of slides. He could have spent the entire trip there. The waterslides were enjoyable for everyone. The resort layout is easy to navigate with a young child, and we appreciated having both lively family areas and quieter Preferred Club spaces. The adults-only section within the Preferred Club is a nice touch for parents who want a peaceful break while still staying close to their kids.
Dreams Flora delivers a true “something for everyone” experience. It’s upscale enough for couples, lively enough for families, and flexible enough for both. The Preferred Club upgrade is worth it, especially with a swim-out room. I would confidently recommend this Dreams Resorts property to a wide range of clients — families, couples, and multi-generational groups alike.
We returned home relaxed, well-fed, and with plenty of great memories.
